Sortify for Mac

One card, three shoots, zero doubt.

Sortify splits a memory card into shoots, copies it into one folder structure and reads every file back before it says “safe to format in camera”.

Why Sortify

Offload tools verify the copy but leave the card as it was. Photo tools sort it into folders but never prove a byte arrived. Nobody splits a card into shoots. Sortify does all three, and leaves your photos alone.

It never rates, develops, tags or catalogues an image; Lightroom owns that. Sortify owns the copy, the proof that the copy is complete, and the folder you will find it in.

Inside Sortify

Shoots, sidecars, structure.

A card is not a folder of files. It is several jobs, in two or three cameras, with the clips’ metadata and proxies scattered where the camera put them. Sortify reads it that way.

Shoots, not folders

Boundaries fall at a time gap, a location jump or a new day, and every split is explained between the two shoots. Name, merge, split or drop; suggested splits are offered, never applied.

C0039.MP4: captured 3 Oct 2026 · 12:51, time source Sony clip metadata.

Nothing usable? It goes to an Undated shoot. Never “now”.

Capture time you can trust

Camera metadata comes first, then filename dates, with filesystem dates as a last resort. See where each capture time came from. Undated files get their own shoot.

Sidecars travel with their file

Clip metadata, telemetry, edits and companion audio stay with their primary. Paired proxies get their own folder. RAW+JPEG twins stay together, with original names kept by default.

A late finish belongs to the same night. The shoot day starts at 4 am by default, so midnight alone will not split it. Set a different start to suit your schedule.

Cards it has seen before

A card is recognised by its volume, so what was already copied is marked and left out. Forget This Card offers it again.

A quick look, a quick cull

Preview a RAW using the JPEG the camera embedded inside it. Arrow keys to walk, X to keep or drop, I for the details. Review the frames before they take up space.

Small things.
Fewer steps.

The little decisions around every shoot. Already thought through.

Your names. Your pattern.

Keep camera filenames, or build your own from the date, client, shoot and a sequence. Paired sidecars follow the rename.

{date}_{shoot}_{seq}

A structure that fits.

Rename category folders, add a client level or turn camera subfolders off. Preview the result before the copy.

Folders, your way

Proxies are your call.

Bring the camera’s paired proxies along, or leave them out of this copy. The full-resolution originals stay in the plan.

Copy proxies · optional

Room to change your mind.

Merge neighbouring shoots, move frames or split a shoot yourself. Split Back restores your last merge.

Before anything is copied

A heads-up about the clock.

Sortify flags signs of a camera clock or time-zone mismatch. Files with no usable date get an Undated shoot.

No invented capture dates

One less thing at the end.

Choose to open the destination in Finder and eject the card automatically. Auto-eject waits for a fully verified ingest.

Set once in Settings

Verified means verified.

Sortify computes an xxHash64 of every file while it copies, then reads every file back off the destination and compares. Only then does it count as verified. A mismatch is copied again once; if it still does not match, that file fails visibly and the rest carries on.

“Safe to format in camera” appears only when every selected file and every sidecar came back matching. Not after the copy. Not after a completion tick. After the read-back.

Each shoot folder gets an ASC MHL manifest, the open standard pro offload tools read, and Verify Folder re-checks a copy against it months later. A pulled card, a crash or sleep leaves no half-written file looking finished; the next run skips what was proven and continues.

Verified — safe to format in camera

60 of 60 files and sidecars read back and matched. Manifest written to ascmhl/.

Copy only. Never move, never overwrite.

A file that already exists at the destination is checked, not replaced. A name that is taken gets a suffix, and the plan says so before anything starts. Free space is checked first.

Clearing the card is opt-in, every time.

The default is to format it in the camera. Deleting from the card is a choice per ingest, never remembered, and a file goes only when the log proves a verified copy exists and the file on the card still matches it, re-checked right before deletion.
